Where to go, when we’re open, and how to say hello.

We are the watering hole, the only bar on the beach in the UK, fact! Europe/world, by my opinionated knowledge, yes. A spot that is a must see attraction on this fine island down south of our country, ‘when you go, you will never leave’.

We are found in the middle of Cornwall’s finest beach on the west coast, with a 3 mile stretch of sand shadowed by dunes and sea as far as the eye can go, with Holywell on our right shoulder and St Agnes on our left. As a licensed premises all of our events are 18+ unless stated otherwise on the events page.

FAMILY RUN SINCE 1978

The Watering Hole has been a sanctuary of happiness and a land of memories for so many. It always has, and always will be a family business. Bob the founder & son Tom (seen left) can often be found here – living the dream, doing what they do best.

HISTORY OF THE
WATERING HOLE

The only bar actually on the beach in the UK, and the oldest! People continuously ask; how is it there? has it been flooded? how long has it been there?

Close to 50 years ago (1978) a man called Bob Job started up a shack on the beach, roaming the Perranporth coast with deck-chairs, surf hire and ice cream vans. Bill was in charge of this establishment before Bob but he then moved down under to Byron bay, which is where he still remains, passing his business onto Bob, who revolutionized this shack into what is now The Watering Hole. Nobody is too sure on how it was allowed to become a bar / restaurant, but I guess it’s just one of those things that happens, making a difference to huge amounts of people every day.

Stories from the Shore

Don’t just take our word for it – here’s what our guests have to say about their time at The Watering Hole.

Ben Skuse Cornwall

"A blown out day, rain hitting the windows, sea roaring, wind howling...hands kept warm with the fire at my side, hot chocolate at my fingertips looking out at a view that one could only imagine, the movement and emotion created through this scenic view is second to none!"

Clairebelle Paignton, UK

"Fish and chips was yum! We sat in and had fish and chips, is was delicious and the fish was huge! We both enjoyed our meal, and I thought they were good value. Great atmosphere too, and attentive staff. Thank you!"

Joanne Cornwall, UK

"Excellent food For years I have come to Perranporth with my family and every single time I have avoided biting food from the Watering Hole, for some weird reason presuming it wouldn’t be very good. Well, how wrong was I! Amazing fish and chips, could actually be the best I’ve ever had."

Chloe C Braintree, UK

"Doggie heaven! Lovey atmosphere. Huge dog lover here so we were in heaven surprised by so many beautiful pooches. The staff were friendly and make a fab cuppa! "
